What the notary is, and is not
The notary signs a document's digest with a published key and seals a code only it can open. It proves the document existed, unaltered, at the moment it was witnessed. It does not say the document is genuine, that it came from this application, or that its contents are true; §3 of every witnessed certificate says exactly that, in those words.
